Arizona Primary Election Results 2024

U.S. Senate Race and House District Elections

The 2024 primary elections held in Arizona have brought intriguing results. In the U.S. Senate race, Representative Ruben Gallego emerged as the uncontested winner in the Democratic primary. On the contrary, in the fierce Republican primary, Kari Lake led the race with a robust 55.4% vote, leaving candidates Mark Lamb with 39.2% and Elizabeth Reye with a meager 5.4%.

Held across multiple house districts, the elections witnessed passionate competition between the candidates. District 1 saw David Schweikert hold the Republican fort with an impressive 62.8% victory, while Amish Shah emerged as victorious with 24% votes in the Democratic race.

In a potentially close 6th District election, the winning Republican incumbent Juan Ciscomani and Democrat Kirsten Engel, who ran unopposed in her primary, are likely setting up for an engaging rematch. Both candidates had less than 6,000 votes separating them in their last matchup in 2022.

Maricopa County Recorder Election

The Maricopa County Recorder position, an essential election office in Arizona’s most populous county, has been a contentious battle. Stephen Richer, the incumbent, had antagonized much of the Republican base by holding steadfastly that President Biden won the 2020 elections correctly. The primary election results, however, declared Justin Heap victorious, who secured 42.4% of the party’s votes, leaving Stephen Richer and Don Hiatt trailing with 35.9% and 21.8%, respectively.

State Legislature Selections

State electoral races were equally spirited, with numerous candidates vying for the State Senate and State House seats across various districts. Several incumbents held their ground while others faced strong challenges from party peers and opponents.

In the District 1 State Senate Republican primary, Mark Finchem emerged victorious with a significant lead of 47% votes, while incumbent Ken Bennett managed to gather only 34% votes. District 22 recorded another exciting Democratic face-off where incumbent Eva Diaz won the seat by securing 76% votes.

Also noteworthy is the District 17 Republican race where Vince Leach won by a razor-thin margin against incumbent Justine Wadsack with a vote percentage of 51% to 49%.

Corporation Commissioner, County Attorney, Sheriff Races and More

In the race for Corporation Commissioner, Ylenia Aguilar, Jonathon Hill, and Joshua Polacheck won uncontested in the Democrats’ side. Similarly, the Republican side saw Rene Lopez, incumbent Lea Marquez Peterson, and Rachel Walden emerge victoriously.

The Maricopa County Sheriff race saw facets of surprise when Tyler Kamp won the Democrats primary over incumbent Russ Skinner, and Jerry Sheridan led the Republican’s charge.

In conclusion, Arizona’s primary elections have set the stage for a riveting showdown in the upcoming general elections later this year.
