Three Students in Trouble After Threatening to Attack their High School

A serious incident occurred this Monday in Oakland County, Michigan, where three students at a local high school made threats of violence. Authorities are charging them in connection to these threats, as confirmed by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Two students from South Lyon East High School are facing charges for a false report of threats of terrorism, while a third has been charged with intentional threats to commit acts of violence against a school, school employees, or students. Information about the students, such as their names, ages, or genders, has not been provided.

According to the prosecutors, a South Lyon East student shared a worrying statement with a teacher after school on Monday. The post, captured in a screenshot, said, “[G]uys imma shoot up the school tomorrow.” The teacher acted promptly, sharing this information with school officials who immediately began investigating the matter.

During the investigation, two more posts hinting at violence surfaced from the same group chat. These posts suggested imminent danger with a threat to “blow up the school.” At least 10 students received these threatening messages.

Before the charges were instituted, the school administration banned the three students from all school premises for the duration of the investigation. The seriousness of the matter was underscored by Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “Parents and kids should feel safe at school,” she said. “These threats directly impact students, teachers, and staff, and they also undermine our entire community’s confidence in the safety of our schools. It’s not a joke, and the charges we issued will ensure that these students face appropriate consequences.”

In a related incident, a 15-year-old girl was arrested over the weekend in Monroe County for threatening to shoot up her school.
