In Novi, a tragic accident happened on August 29 that resulted in the death of a 62-year-old man. The incident occurred on Beck Road, an important thoroughfare in the town, when the car he was driving was involved in a head-on collision.
According to the preliminary investigation by the local police, the man identified as Steven Erno, was driving a Ford Fusion north on Beck Road. For some unknown reason, his vehicle crossed the centerline and rammed into a southbound GMC truck.
The driver of the GMC truck, a 44-year-old man from Plymouth, thankfully did not require any medical treatment. However, Erno, unfortunately, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police have stated that neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in this tragic collision. An autopsy is still pending and more information will hopefully be uncovered by the ongoing investigation.
The police officer overseeing the investigation emphasized the importance of safe driving, stating, “Ensure that you are not driving distracted and maintain suitable speeds. You can never predict what might happen on the road.”
The incident has led to local calls for drivers to maintain vigilance while driving, underscore the tragic consequences that can result from a moment’s distraction. As the police continue their work to fully understand the cause of this accident, let this unfortunate incident remind us of the need for constant attention and caution on the roads.
Our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of Steven Erno during this difficult time.
