Best-Selling Author Brendan DuBois Charged with Possession of Child Sex Abuse Images

Renowned Author Brendan DuBois Faces Charges of Child Sex Pornography

Details of the Investigation

Renowned author Brendan DuBois has been officially charged with six felony counts of possession of child sex abuse images. The best-selling author pleaded not guilty during his arraignment last Thursday. DuBois turned himself in at the Exeter Police Department, New Hampshire, after an arrest warrant was issued against him. He is currently in preventative detention without bail, with a request for bail still under advisement.

The criminal complaint lodged against DuBois revealed that he had possession of a minimum of 35 “visual representations of children engaging in sexually explicit conduct.” There were specific mentions of nude images of boys and girls aged below 18, engaging in a range of sexual actions. The author’s legal representation is attorney Harry Starbranch from Starbranch Law.

Persistent Efforts by Exeter Police and Partner Agencies

The investigation into this matter began in March earlier this year and was conducted by the Exeter Police in conjunction with the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce. The police later executed a search warrant which consequently led to the arrest of DuBois. Detectives from Portsmouth, Dover, Pelham, Epping, and Manchester police departments were also involved alongside detectives from The New Hampshire State Police and the Massachusetts State Police.

The Cyber Tip-off and Search Warrant Execution

The investigators came across the criminal content after receiving a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip-off, based on reports from Google, identified files believed to be child pornography uploaded to a Google Drive. The IP address was later traced back to DuBois.

With a search warrant, the police carried out a search on DuBois’ residence on Juniper Ridge Road in Exeter. A variety of items were confiscated, including a Toshiba 1 Terabyte hard drive, and an Apple laptop with thousands of images marked as potential child abuse content. Among thousands of images found on the hard drive, 20 were highlighted as explicit child abuse content in the affidavit.

It was also discovered from the search records that DuBois had once sought assistance over saving child pornography to his Google Drive and how to tell if Google had reported him to the police.

Suspension of DuBois’ Works

Brendan DuBois is a best-selling author famous for works such as “The First Lady” and “Cornwalls Are Gone”. He has a series of publications and had partnered with James Patterson on several books. However, in light of the allegations, DuBois’ works have been suspended from sale and promotion by his publisher, Severn River Publishing. The publisher expressed deep disturbance over the serious allegations against DuBois. Despite respecting the legal process, Severn River Publishing decided it was necessary to suspend the promotion and sale of all DuBois’ books in order to uphold their values and maintain the trust of readers, authors, and the publishing community.
