Farmington Founders Festival makes a triumphant return this weekend
FARMINGTON— After a hiatus, the city’s iconic and much-awaited event, The 60th Farmington Founders Festival, returns this weekend, running from July 18 to July 20. The festival, a cornerstone of the Farmington calendar, is expected to attract more than last year’s stunning 43,000 attendees. The anticipation is heightened this year as the festival coincides with the city’s much-celebrated bicentennial making the festivities grander.
Events to look out for
This year’s festival is packed with a wide array of attractions catering to all age groups. From the popular Founders Festival Parade and Fido Fest to a 5K color run, kids’ area, live musical entertainment, and a crafters market. No matter your age or interest, the festival has you covered!
Farmington Founders Festival Parade
A tradition at heart of the Founders Festival is the vibrant Farmington Founders Festival Parade, set to take place along Grand River Avenue at 10 a.m. on July 20. The parade, billed as a “decades parade,” will see various community groups represent different decades of the city’s rich history. The creative and exciting display promises a trip down the memory lane.
Farmington Fido Fest
Aside from the human festivities, the festival also caters to canine companions. The Farmington Fido Fest, a favourited event scheduled for July 19 and 20, is expected to captivate attention with astonishing K-9 antics.
Kids area and Crafters Market
Young attendees aren’t left out either, with an interactive kids area set to run from 10 a.m. -7 p.m. on July 19 and 20, featuring bounce houses, stage shows and a foam party. Unique to this year is the addition of a Lego sculpture. Alongside, the Crafters Market will showcase the creativity of local artisans, featuring vintage decor, handmade consumables and furniture.
Entertainment and Food
Far from being a one-dimensional event, The Farmington Founders Festival is peppered with musical performances from various artists downtown from July 18-20. Adding to the ambiance, delicious food from a variety of food trucks will be stationed near the musical tent, ensuring no attendee leaves with an empty stomach. Additionally, a bicentennial merchandise table will set up shop, making the commemoration a memorable one.
