New Cat Adoption Center in Farmington Hills Features Lounge and Café
Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center Set to Open on July 23
In a delightful turn of events for cat enthusiasts and aspiring cat parents, Farmington Hills is hosting a new kind of hangout place—Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center. Slated to open on July 23, the center promises a unique experience for visitors with a comfortable lounge, a cat-friendly café, a kitten room, and an educational corner filled with books about cats.
Interactive Environment for Cats and Potential Adopters
The brainchild of Michelle Dimaria, the Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center marries the pleasures of a café visit with the company of cats. Pioneering such a concept in the area, the center, located at the former site of Carousel Cat Clinic, promises to provide an interactive environment for cats and potential adopters. “It’s such a great, relaxing environment,” says Dimaria. “You just see how much people love spending time with the cats, and so it’s good for everybody – it’s good for the cats, it’s good for the people.”
Welcoming Environment and Varied Features
Understanding the importance of creating a natural habitat for the cats, the center boasts a free-roaming area for the cats, separated from the food zone. Visitors can either enjoy a quiet lunch in the café area or take their food to the cat zone to share a meal with the furry residents. Spread over an area of approximately 1,400 square feet, the center aims to house between 10 to 15 kittens and cats at a time, currently residing at different Petco locations and numerous foster homes.
True Personalities in Comfortable Surroundings
One of the key elements of the Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center is the stress-free and comfortable environments that allow the cats to relay their true personalities to guests. When not confined in enclosures, the cats are more relaxed and more themselves, allowing adopters to make more informed decisions about their prospective pets.
The Story Behind the Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center
The genesis of the Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center can be traced back to a similar facility in Orlando, Florida that Dimaria visited almost a decade ago. The impediments along the way mostly revolved around explaining the cat café concept to cities that wanted the café to be situated in an industrial area. Luckily, Farmington Hills’ Building and Planning Department approved the retail space location, bringing Dimaria’s dream to fruition. “I’m super excited,” says Dimaria. “I can’t even believe it’s coming true because it’s such a long dream to do it.”
Open to All, Ideal for Cat Lovers
Scheduled to be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday, the cat café welcomes all visitors while encouraging cat enthusiasts to spend quality time with cats before making any adoption decisions. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. Those interested in learning more about the initiative can visit the Avocato website or the center’s Facebook page, or simply call (248) 482-8271.
Adopt a Cat, Help a Cause
With adoption fees ranging from $150 for an adult cat to $175 for a kitten, visiting the Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center can be a rewarding experience for both the cats and the adopters. The café also offers a $25 discount for those who adopt two cats at one go. Furthermore, the revenue from adoption fees, donations, and the café’s sales will be channeled into maintaining the facility.
Volunteering Opportunities
For individuals interested in contributing to a noble cause, Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center also offers volunteering opportunities. Those interested can apply through Avocato’s contact channels.
A Unique Dream-Fulfilling Initiative
Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center, the first of its kind in the Farmington area, stands as a testament to a dream shared by Michelle Dimaria and Judith Lolas, the center’s operations manager. The center aims to do more than just facilitate cat adoptions—it offers a shared space for cats and humans to bond, a prospect that excites both founders immensely.
