Exciting New Cat Adoption Center Opens in Farmington Hills
In an outstanding move for animals and people in Farmington Hills, the city is witnessing the inauguration of a remarkable new cat adoption center named the Avocato Catfé and Adoption Center. Streamlining a convenience-driven approach, this feature-rich center Café is scheduled to open up to the public on July 23.
Unique Addition to the Community
Designed to enhance the experience of cat-loving residents, the adoption center features a range of amenities including a café area, a lounge area, an educational room filled with enriching books about cats, a kitten room, and even a party area. Notably, the cats within this facility will be free to roam around, fostering a socially engaging environment for both the cats and the visitors.
Inside the Adoption Center
According to Michelle Dimaria, the founder of the center, the facility spans around 1,400 square feet. “When you walk in there’s a wall that separates the cat area from the food area”, Dimaria adds, “So you can bring your food back there to eat with the cats if you want, or you can stay in the front without the cats if you’re just passing by for lunch and just want to grab a bag of chips and a coffee”.
Safe Haven for the Feline Friends
With space to house between 10 and 15 kittens and cats at a time, these furry friends are housed presently at four Petco locations and various foster homes. The adoption center is essentially an extension of Pet Adoption Alternative of Warren, which is a nonprofit, volunteer-run animal rescue group that was initiated back in 2008.
A Natural Habitat for Cats
Avocato manages to set itself apart from Petco by providing a more relaxed and comforting environment for the cats and kittens. Dimaria believes that it assists cats to be less stressed and more of themselves, thereby enabling potential pet parents to spend more time with them, getting acquainted with their real personalities.
Bringing the Café Concept to Life
A 10-year dream in the making, Dimaria was stimulated to bring the cat café concept to life after her visit to a similar facility in Orlando, Florida. “It’s such a great, relaxing environment,” she shared, “You just see how much people love spending time with the cats, and so it’s good for everybody – it’s good for the cats, it’s good for the people. I just fell in love with it right away”
City Approval and Future Plans
Unlike other cities that wanted the café to operate in an industrial area, Farmington Hills’ Building and Planning Department approved of the retail space location. The expenses here are covered through adoption fees, donations, and sales from food and drinks from the café. The plan is to hold special events like birthday parties with the cats and movie nights, seeing that the facility features two large television screens; creating a versatile public space for a myriad of events.
Fun Times Ahead
With working hours from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, people can visit and choose based on the kitten or cat that suits their lifestyle and the frequency they spent at home. While they do accept walk-ins, appointments are preferred and can be booked online by visiting their website. Excitement is buzzing in the air as this creative venture seems to be set to make a lasting impression on both the residents and the budding feline inhabitants of Farmington Hills.
