Livonia’s Electricity Network Gets Significant Upgrades
If you live in Livonia and have suffered from electricity outages in the past, you’ll be pleased to know that things are about to change. The local utility company has taken on the task of improving the electricity reliability in the area, aiming to reduce power outages by 30% and to make sure that when outages do occur, they will be 50% shorter by 2029.
Since autumn 2023, the company’s been working hard on key electric circuits in the city. There were eight circuits identified as underperforming, so the team got to work making the needed improvements. These areas include various different parts of the city, from city hall to local businesses, and thousands of residential customers too.
So far, all eight circuits have been upgraded, totalling more than 50 miles of electric circuit improvements. This included a full circuit patrol, equipment upgrades, and even replacement of more than 200 power poles. The work has been extensive, but it’s all for the goal of providing a more reliable electricity supply.
And it’s not only about the equipment. Trees can be a big problem when it comes to power outages, with branches falling in storms and touching the power lines. That’s why tree trimming has been part of the job too. By the end of the year, there will be 120 miles of tree trimming and/or tree removal completed in Livonia. The company expects this will greatly reduce power outages, especially in bouts of extreme weather.
Where tree trimming is done and equipment upgrades are in place, the people of Livonia can expect to see a significant improvement in electricity reliability. Crews will continue working on this project throughout 2024, with regular updates expected about the progress of the project.
