Detroit Tragedy: Local Teen Charged in Fatal Shooting

News came to light earlier this week in Detroit, where a 17-year-old from Farmington Hills is being accused of a fatal shooting. The young man, identified as Brandon Butler, was officially charged on August 2 with the tragic death of 23-year-old Tavita Hunter.

Authorities have decided that Butler will be held accountable as an adult for his actions, despite his young age. The charge sheet includes first-degree murder and felony firearm charges, in light of his alleged involvement in the shooting incident that occurred on July 13.

On that ill-fated day, Detroit police found themselves rushing to the corner of Cardoni Street and Robinwood Road. Around 4:45 pm, they had received urgent reports of an open shooting incident. Upon their arrival, the unfortunate scenario met their eyes; a young female, later recognised as Hunter, was lying motionless in a grassy corner, having sustained a gunshot wound to her back. Later, members of the Fire Department confirmed her death at the scene.

Initial investigations into the circumstances surrounding the event suggest that a seemingly minor altercation between Butler and Hunter took a horrific turn. As things spun out of control, Butler is said to have shot Hunter before making a hasty getaway from the crime scene.

The court has now set a hefty cash/surety bond of $200,000 for Butler, during his arraignment. If able to post bond, he will be strictly monitored under house arrest, with a GPS tether tracking his movements. An upcoming bond redetermination hearing is already scheduled for the morning of August 5.

Furthermore, a Probable Cause Conference has been arranged for the early hours of August 13. An additional preliminary examination will also take place on August 19, to further determine the progress of his case.
