Michigan Jazz Festival Showcases All Faith Day in Lansing’s Old Town
Here in Lansing, Michigan, weekend vibes were all groovy with the sounds of gospel music strumming through the historic district of Old Town this past Sunday. In a pioneering move, the Michigan Jazz Festival hosted its ever first All Faith Day. Attendees got the chance to groove to the music of award-winning gospel artists and browse through various faith-based vendors.
Pastor Anthony Taylor, a dynamic speaker at the event, shared an interesting perspective. He suggested that one can trace notes of gospel music in all music genres. He said, distinguishing its rich heritage, “History proves that a lot of music started in the church, and gospel music encompasses so many different genres of music and it fuses it together. So, you hear a little classical, you hear a little Jazz, you’ll hear some blues—all of that stuff began in the church.”
