Things got pretty serious over in Oakland County, Michigan, recently as three high school students found themselves facing charges due to alleged shooting and bomb threats. This is scary stuff, folks, and thankfully the authorities are on it.

These three kids, all from South Lyon East High School, were each charged with making some form of school violence threats. The specifics aren’t being shared, such as their names, genders, or ages. What’s really important is that the situation seems to be under control and everybody is safe now.

The whole story started after school hours one Monday when a student decided to share a post with a teacher. This post included a screenshot from a group chat message saying something like, ‘guys imma shoot up the school tomorrow.'” The teacher, naturally quite alarmed, brought this to the attention of the school authorities, sparking an immediate investigation. You don’t take the safety of students and staff lightly, right?

Digging deeper into the issue, it was found that two additional threats were posted in the same group chat; one of them stating something along the lines of ‘I’m going to blow up the school.’ At least 10 students received these messages, pulling them into a situation they probably never expected or wanted to experience.

Before the police slapped charges on these students, the school didn’t waste time and banned these three from all district school facilities whilst the investigation was underway. This, of course, is only fair to ensure the safety of all other students and school staff.

Oakland County Prosecutor, Karen McDonald, had a clear message to send amidst this ordeal. She emphasizes that “Parents and kids should feel safe at school. These threats directly impact students, teachers, and staff, and they also undermine our entire community’s confidence in the safety of our schools. It’s not a joke, and the charges we issued will ensure that these students face appropriate consequences.”

In an unrelated but similarly alarming case, a 15-year-old girl found herself under arrest one weekend in Monroe County, for allegedly threatening to shoot up her school too.

It’s crucial to remind ourselves and our young ones that safety is paramount, and making such threats is no light matter. Speaking out about potential threats is important. After all, a safer community starts from within each one of us. Remember to report anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or could potentially result in harm to the authorities.

Stay safe, folks!
