Trunk or Treat Event in Detroit: A Safe Halloween for Families

Detroit is set to celebrate Halloween in a fun and safe way at the Conner Creek Corps Community Center, which is hosting a special Trunk or Treat event on October 31. This festive gathering will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Detroit Police Department’s 5th Precinct, located at 3500 Conner St.

The Trunk or Treat event aims to give children a delightful trick-or-treating experience while also providing support to local families in need. Kids can look forward to an array of decorated car trunks filled with candy, games, and exciting activities, all within a safe and family-friendly environment. This event isn’t just about fun; it’s also a moment for community bonding, bringing together local volunteers, police officers, and residents to share in the joy of Halloween.

A very special part of this year’s event is the collaboration with the Hip-Hop & R&B Station, 97.9 WJLB. They are joining The Salvation Army in distributing new winter coats for children, ensuring that everyone can stay warm as the colder months approach. This partnership has been a community staple since 1982, focusing on providing essential gear like coats and winter accessories to kids across metro Detroit.

Major Charlotte Hall has expressed that this event will not only be a fantastic way for kids to celebrate Halloween but also ensure they have the warm clothing they need for winter. She shared, “Thanks to our community partners, The Salvation Army can offer children warmth and hope, letting them focus on what truly matters this season.”

Aside from receiving coats, children and families attending the event will also enjoy complimentary candy and hot dogs. Remember, these tasty snacks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s a good idea to arrive early!

As a token of appreciation for the hard work of volunteers, Buddy’s Pizza has generously donated gift cards that will be distributed to recognize their efforts in supporting local families, available while supplies last.

If you can’t make it to Trunk or Treat but still want to help, you can offer support by:

  • Donating online at SAmetrodetroit.org
  • Texting COAT to 24365

Families in need of winter coats and accessories are encouraged to reach out to their local Salvation Army Corps community center for assistance. A list of locations can be found at SAmetrodetroit.org or by calling 248-443-5500.

This event promises to be a heartwarming way for the community to come together, ensuring that every child enjoys a magical Halloween while preparing for a cozy winter ahead.
