132,000 Baseus Magnetic Wireless Charging Power Banks Recalled Across the United States

In Farmington Hills, an investigation was carried out that has led to a recall of around 132,000 Baseus Magnetic Wireless Charging Power Banks across the United States. Earlier in February this year, a unit of this Baseus power bank reportedly caught fire in Farmington Hills.

This wireless charger’s lithium-ion battery has been identified as the culprit due to its tendency to overheat, presenting a significant fire risk, as stated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Concerns were raised after a homeowner mentioned his power bank was hissing and then suddenly burst into flames. The fire was small but intense, causing minimal damage with no recorded injuries.

Jason Baloga, the Farmington Hills Fire Marshal, noted the incident and promptly reported it to the CPSC, which kickstarted the nationwide investigation. A total of 39 instances were reported where the chargers caught fire, which led to approximately $20,000 in property damage and 13 burn injuries.

The company, Baseus, also received 132 complaints about the power banks bulging or swelling. Based on their statement, the affected power bank models are the Baseus Magnetic Mini Wireless Fast Charge Power Bank 2022, 6000mAh 20W— Model PPCXM06 and the Baseus Magnetic Wireless Charging Power Bank 6000mAh 20W — Model PPCXW06.

Marshal Baloga was commended for his efforts and was awarded with a certificate and a coin in a ceremony held in Farmington Hills. Angie Ott, a representative from CPSC, expressed her appreciation for Baloga’s contribution in ensuring the safety of consumers.

If you own either of the mentioned power bank models, it is strongly advised to stop using them immediately and to dispose of them for safety reasons. Baseus is offering a full refund to affected customers who can provide proof of purchase. More information is available here.
