Folks, Bone Yard BBQ in Farmingon is Shutting Down After 47 Glorious Years

In Farmington Hills, a legendary joint known for serving mouth-watering platters of rotisserie-style barbecued ribs, Bone Yard BBQ, is serving its final orders. This Labor Day will be its last operational day after an astounding 47 years of service. A power outage maintained the restaurant dark this Thursday afternoon but it’s presumed to recover soon!

However, this is not your regular doom and gloom story. Owner Gordon Djordjevski reassures that the closure doesn’t count on signs of a dwindling economy or slower sales. It’s simply because the senior generation of the family, who established the Boneyard, are preparing for retirement.

Gordon, who is part of the third generation managing the brand, said, “My parents are ready to retire… that’s the main reason“. According to Gordon, the Boneyard is a family busisness, founded by his grandfather in collaboration with his father and uncle.

Look Out Dearborn Heights, Bone Yard BBQ is Not Going Anywhere

Good news! If you’re a fan of the Boneyard’s food, it’s neither the end of the world, nor their brand. Their location at 7010 N. Telegraph in Dearborn Heights, run by Gordon’s uncle, will remain open. Patrons can still savor Boneyard’s signature ribs, broasted chicken, family feasts, and other barbecue favorites. Opened in 1972, the Dearborn Heights venue is the original Bone Yard BBQ – founded even before the Farmington Hills branch in 1977.

A third location in Livonia closed earlier this year in January after nearly 40 years. Gordon made it very clear by saying “We didn’t sell the Boneyard, we just sold the real estate” while talking about the Farmington Hills place.

Bone Yard BBQ’s Future is Bright

There’s a silver lining to this story. While sad to part ways with the physical property where so many memories were made, Gordon is excited about the future prospects. He shared that there are plans in motion to relocate. While there may not be an immediate move, customers can definitely look forward to a revamped and rebranded Boneyard in the days to come.

I just want people to know we’re not disappearing, we’re not going away… The Boneyard has not been sold, we just sold the building, we sold the real estate, that’s it.“, said Djordjevski. You heard it, folks! Keep an eye out for a fresh phase of the Boneyard BBQ in your neighborhood!
