Canton Township Tragedy: Man Loses Life In Neighbor Dispute

Sad news comes from Canton Township as a father of two and active community member reportedly loses his life over a neighborhood argument. Identified as Nathan Morris, the 35-year-old was shot near his home on Cornell Street. The alleged shooter – an unidentified neighbor – was reportedly angered by the simple act of Morris’ daughter playing with his mulch.

The events took a tragic turn when Morris was shot shortly after sending his young child home. Police reached the scene at 11:48 a.m. to find Morris severely wounded. He was promptly taken to a local hospital but he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect had locked himself up in his home post-incident but surrendered eventually, and is now in police custody according to Canton Township Police.

The gravity of the tragic events is expressed in a statement from the Michigan Republican Party, that confirmed Morris’ active role as secretary of the 6th Congressional District Republican Committee. The statement highlight his character as a great father and a good man. It reflects on the dreadful act, mentioning “his life was taken because his daughter was playing with mulch in someone’s yard is unfathomable”.

Members of the community, are still in shock and couldn’t hold back their feelings. They describe the suspected shooter as someone known for his argumentative nature. Surprisingly, some acknowledged his courteousness. Aware of his probable mental health issues, locals express their fears & concerns.

Serving as an engineer at Ford Motors, Morris was also recently involved in politics prompted by the company’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. His untimely death is described as a “senseless act of violence” by Canton Township police chief, Chad Baugh.

Leaving behind his wife, Becky, and his children, Molly and Zoey, Nathan Morris is mourned by his relatives, friends, and the community. A fundraiser in his honor has been launched to support his bereaved family. Praised for his commitment and dearly missed “reading to his children at bedtime,” the spirit of Nathan Morris will evidently strive in the hearts of his loved ones.
