Canton Township Gears Up for Big Projects with $7M State Funds

Hey there folks! We’ve got some big developments sprouting in Canton Township. Some pretty hefty funding is being funneled into our town for a couple of projects that could make a significant difference in the everyday lives of many residents. Hold your breath! The town’s bank account has just got a sweet deposit of nearly $7 million courtesy of state grants.

Three major projects stand to benefit from this sizeable funding. We’re looking at a pedestrian bridge over Interstate 275, some renovations to the Summit, and a brand new facility at the Sheldon School. A big shout-out goes to the tireless civic leaders who helped secure the funding. It’s a sure sign that there are positives changes on the horizon for Canton Township.

Pedestrian Bridge Over I-275

Remember that slightly scary path we’ve all had to trudge along at one point or another on Palmer Road? Well, that’s all set to change. A hefty slice of the grant pie, to the tune of $3.25 million, is being used to construct a pedestrian bridge over I-275 at Palmer Road. The aim? To make the roadways more friendly to pedestrians and those who travel by anything other than a car.

Summit Renovation Project

The Summit on the Park is bracing itself for a facelift with around 10,600 square feet of space set to be spruced up. The plan is to provide more room for events for our elder community including popular activities like card games, cooking classes, and exercise classes. Around $2.5 million of the grant money is heading this way, giving our seniors, and others, an amazing space to hang out, socialize, and keep active.

Revamping the Sheldon School

The Sheldon School isn’t being overlooked. It’s going to be fitted to house a child welfare program, Kids-TALK, to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of kids across western Wayne County. A cool $1 million is being invested here. The idea is to create a safe space where children feeling the strain can be interviewed and have a chance to be heard.

What a boost for Canton Township! It looks like the money’s being put to good use with these important projects. Keep an eye out for these exciting developments. It’s a great time to be a part of this awesome community.
