Cedar Falls Mourns the Loss of Beloved Educator and Community Icon Bev Crooks
In the heart of Cedar Falls, the community is coming together to remember a truly irreplaceable figure, Bev Crooks, who passed away on March 12, 2025, at the wonderful age of 82. Bev, a cherished educator and community member, made her mark during her life, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A Life Built on Service and Community
Born on November 27, 1942, in Le Mars, Iowa, Bev was raised in a loving family, the daughter of Arnold and Minnie Stulc Danne. After graduating from what is now the University of Northern Iowa in 1964, she dedicated her career to shaping young minds. Professionally, she taught in Belle Plaine and later became an elementary guidance counselor, a position she held until her retirement in 2003. A devoted educator, Bev was known for her passion and dedication to helping children thrive.
A Family Woman at Heart
Bev’s love for family was evident in everything she did. She married her beloved husband, Ronald Crooks, on June 12, 1965, in Sioux City, and together they raised two wonderful children, Sara Primmer of Marion and Jeff Crooks of Dysart. The couple’s home was often filled with love, laughter, and delicious aromas, especially when Bev was whipping up her famous banana bars and brownies.
As a proud grandmother, she doted on her four grandchildren: Kaylee, Katelyn, Brenton, and Myah. Whether attending soccer games or hosting family holidays, her presence was a constant source of warmth and joy.
A Touch of Elegance
Bev took joy in presenting herself elegantly, paying close attention to her clothes, hair, and nails. Always stylish, she enjoyed socializing and spent time working at Dillard’s and Casual Corner, where she loved meeting new people and forming connections within her community.
Passions Beyond the Classroom
Not only was Bev a dedicated teacher and family member, but she was also a talented home decorator. Her skills shone through in her decorations, particularly the stunning Christmas tree she maintained year-round, which she decorated to reflect various holiday themes. Beyond her home, she was engaged in her community through her church, St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City, where she lovingly created shawls for nursing homes, spreading warmth and comfort.
Summer Memories and Unwavering Friendships
While she may not have been a fan of water activities, summers at their lake home on Holiday Lake in Brooklyn held special memories for her family. Bev thrived in the company of loved ones, hosting gatherings and ensuring her home was a welcoming space for family and friends alike. Her hospitality was matched only by the close friendships she cherished throughout her life.
A Fond Farewell
Bev Crooks leaves behind her loving husband, Ron, her children, Sara and Jeff, and her cherished grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Doug Danne of Northville, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her brother, Arlan Danne.
As the Cedar Falls community gathers to pay their respects, funeral services for Bev will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City, with a visitation for an hour before the service. A private family burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene, Iowa.
