Tribute to a Remarkable Healer: Colonel James William Forsythe Passes Away at 86

With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of Colonel James William Forsythe, M.D., H.M.D., a highly respected figure in the medical community and a pioneer in integrative oncology. He left this world peacefully on January 29, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving wife, Earlene.

A Journey of Dedication and Service

Forsythe’s story began in Detroit, Michigan, where he was raised by his mother, Ruth, who worked tirelessly to secure a brighter future for their family. A smart and ambitious young man, Forsythe excelled in school, particularly in sciences, and enjoyed challenging himself in chess and physics clubs. He worked hard to support his mother and paid for his college education through sheer determination.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Physiology from the prestigious University of California, Berkeley, before heading to medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where he received his medical degree in 1964. To fund his studies, Forsythe enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, embarking on a remarkable 26-year military career that saw him rise to the rank of Full Colonel.

A Leader in Medicine

During his service, Forsythe completed a tour in Vietnam, after which he became the State Surgeon for the Nevada Army National Guard. His medical expertise was vast; he was board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Utilization Review and Quality Assurance. He also completed residencies in Pathology and Internal Medicine and concluded an Oncology-Hematology fellowship at UCSF and San Francisco General Hospital.

But Forsythe didn’t stop there – he embraced homeopathy and became a renowned pioneer in integrative oncology. His life’s work in Northern Nevada spanned nearly six decades, during which he founded several centers for cancer care, including the Cancer Screening and Treatment Center of Nevada, the Forsythe Cancer Care Center, and the Century Wellness Clinic. What set Forsythe apart was his unique approach, blending conventional treatments with alternative therapies to provide holistic care.

Impact Beyond the Clinic

Forsythe authored an impressive 17 books on topics such as cancer treatment and patient advocacy, making complex medical insights accessible for everyone. He also hosted the radio show “Health Matters”, sharing invaluable advice and knowledge on health and wellness with listeners. His passion for education was matched only by his deep compassion for his patients, who always left his clinic feeling heard and cared for.

A Family Man

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Forsythe was a devoted family man. He took great joy in organizing family gatherings, often whipping up friendly tennis matches, and cherishing moments spent with his loved ones. His family includes his beloved wife Earlene, five children—Marc, Michele, Lisa, Pompeo, and Sarah—along with nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Known for his kindness, humor, and generosity, Forsythe instilled values of discipline, service, and perseverance in his children, all while living a life grounded in faith and integrity. His legacy will undoubtedly continue through the numerous lives he touched over his lifetime.

Memorial Service and Donations

A memorial service is set to take place on February 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Grace Church, located at 1220 Robb Dr, Reno, NV. In honor of his legacy, the family requests that, instead of flowers, donations be made to the Forsythe Wellness Clinic Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to continuing his mission of holistic health and patient care. Contributions can be easily made online at DrForsythe.com or through contacting CenturyWC@ATT.NET.

Col. Forsythe lived a life dedicated to healing and service, and the impact he made in the world of medicine and his community will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, dear Colonel.
