Great News for Our Communities: Tree Funding Blossoms Across Michigan!

Hey there, tree lovers! If you’re in Michigan, you’ll love what’s happening in your neck of the woods. Nine communities have struck gold with Community Forestry Grants from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. We’re talking about a whopping total of $127,093 in funding dedicated to planting trees, educating our communities, and learning all about the great benefits trees bring to our lives.

So, What’s in it for Us?

For the communities in the WHMI listening area, this grant means exciting projects are coming down the pipeline:

• The City of Chelsea is set to get $5,768. With this funding, they’ll conduct an urban tree canopy assessment and create a tree preservation plan. It’s all about making sure we love our trees and keep them healthy!
• Williamston is on deck with $12,250 to complete a public tree inventory. They’ll also whip up a maintenance plan and plant new trees to grow their very own tree nursery. How cool is that?
• Swartz Creek is getting $9,890 to plant and care for 38 new trees at Abrams Park. That’s going to look amazing!

The DNR isn’t just tossing out money for fun; they plan to plant a total of 260 new trees and engage around 200 students, residents, and city staff in various tree-related activities. How’s that for community spirit?
