Exciting Times for DeSoto Central Volleyball Players

DeSoto, Mississippi, is buzzing with excitement as four talented members of the DeSoto Central Lady Jags volleyball team are taking their athletic skills to the next level! On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, the atmosphere at DeSoto Central was filled with celebration as these young athletes signed their Letters of Intent to play volleyball at the collegiate level. This is not only a big step for them personally but also a proud moment for the whole school.

Meet the Stars

First up is Reese McIntosh, who has chosen to continue her volleyball journey at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Known for her powerful serves and strategic plays, McIntosh has been a definite standout on the team. Over the past season, she recorded an impressive 270 kills with an average of 2.5 kills per set. But that’s not all—she also led the team in digs with 277, making her a defensive powerhouse.

Next, let’s shine a light on Emma Story, who has signed with Northeast Mississippi Community College. Like McIntosh, Story has been a starting player since her freshman year. She wrapped up her season with 184 kills—averaging 2 kills per set. Her consistent performance on the court has certainly earned her this opportunity and recognition.

Sydney Tague is also heading off to play at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Tague became a starter during her sophomore year, quickly proving her worth as a player. She excelled particularly in serving, finishing the season with an impressive 81 aces. Not just a server, Tague also showcased her skills as a setter, leading the team with a whopping 865 assists. With a total of 254 digs, she contributed in more ways than one!

Last but certainly not least is Zion Rucker, who has signed to play at Miles College, a respectable NCAA Division II school located in Fairfield, Alabama. Rucker made her mark on the team with 205 kills, averaging 1.9 kills per set, putting in the work right from her sophomore year. Her hard work and determination paved the way for this amazing opportunity.

Celebrating Achievements

The DeSoto Central Lady Jags finished their season with an impressive overall record of 24-15 and a solid 9-3 in Region 1-7A. The team’s journey took them all the way to the second round of the 7A playoffs, where they gave their all before facing elimination by Germantown. This season was not just about victories but also about the bonds forged and the lasting impact made on younger players within the program.

Under the guidance of Coach Margaret Falatko, these four athletes showcased remarkable leadership and invaluable contributions over their four years. The coach expressed a mix of joy and sadness as they embark on new journeys but emphasized the positive influence these girls had on the volleyball program.

A Bright Future Ahead

As these four players celebrate this significant milestone, they also reflect on the countless hours of practice, the dedication to their craft, and the memories made with teammates. Their achievements have set records and have earned them several accolades throughout their high school careers. Now, they’re ready to take on new challenges in college volleyball, and the DeSoto community couldn’t be prouder. This is just the beginning for these talented young ladies, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!
