A dedicated family woman and passionate community volunteer, Ellen touched many lives throughout her 29 years in the neighborhood. Her legacy of love, style, and kindness will be cherished by family and friends as they prepare to say their final farewells with visitation services on January 31 and a Funeral Mass on February 1.
Detroit, MI – The tight-knit community of North Rosedale Park is feeling a profound sense of loss this week as they bid farewell to a cherished figure, Ellen (Delle-Monache) Komer, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, at the age of 84. Ellen’s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her love of fashion and jewelry, and her warm-hearted passion for animals.
Ellen was born in Detroit, Michigan, and from an early age displayed a remarkable blend of curiosity and creativity. After graduating from Mercy High School, she furthered her education at Detroit Mercy College, equipping herself with skills that would see her excel in the world of fashion and marketing.
Her professional journey began as a buyer for J.L. Hudson’s Company, a significant department store at the time. Ellen’s eye for detail soon led her to become a jewelry buyer and later a home economist in the marketing sector. Her career not only allowed her to express her flair for style but also provided her with the opportunity to influence trends and products that touched many lives.
While Ellen’s career was impressive, nothing brought her more joy than her family. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Douglas Komer, and a proud mother to her son, David, who is married to Robin Matzelt. Ellen was also deeply connected to her brother, John Delle-Monache, forming a close-knit family that embodied mutual support and love.
Outside of her family life, Ellen embraced a range of hobbies that showcased her vibrant personality and zest for life. She had a particular passion for jewelry, which was not just a career but also a beloved pastime. Ellen loved to indulge in Italian food, and if there was a good corvette race happening, you could bet she would be there cheering with infectious energy. An ardent animal lover, she adored both cats and dogs, often found helping out at local shelters and ensuring that every stray had a home.
Ellen wasn’t just a beloved family member; she was a treasured community member too. For 29 years, she resided in North Rosedale Park, engaging actively with her neighbors and serving the community through the Women’s Club and participating in the Detroit Police Citizen’s Academy. She showed a true commitment to bettering her community and imparting kindness wherever she went.
As the community prepares to say their final goodbyes, visitation services will be held on January 31 at 1 PM, followed by a rosary at 5:30 PM at Charles Step Funeral Home, located at 18425 Beech Daly Road in Redford, MI. The following day, on February 1, there will be an instate at 10 AM and a Funeral Mass at 11 AM at Divine Providence, located at 25335 W Nine Mile Rd in Southfield, MI.
Ellen’s passing leaves a substantial void in the hearts of those who knew her. Her legacy of love, community spirit, and joy will continue to inspire everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her. The memories she leaves behind will forever be cherished by her family and friends, ensuring she will never truly be gone from the hearts of those who loved her.
