Restaurant facades changing.

Grab your planners, Detroit folks! July was a month of fresh starts and farewells in our local dining scene. We welcomed 12 new watering holes and eateries, while bidding adieu to 5. Here are the highlights:

Brand New Spots

Doyles Irish Pub at Saint John’s Resort (Plymouth)

We got a taste of Ireland with the grand opening of Doyles at luxurious Saint John’s. This swanky pub swings a modern vibe, channeling everything you love about Irish pubs but with a little extra. Look forward to family crests, lively lighting, and some fabulous Irish street photography. Oh, and let’s not forget the drool-worthy dishes, like modern versions of fish and chips!

Maxhari’s Family Restaurant (Brownstown)

If you’re feeling those good old family vibes, Maxhari’s Family Restaurant popped up in Brownstown. With classic diner dishes, a daily-changing soup menu, and deals for kiddos and seniors, this place is a super spot for a sit-down with the fam!

Peach Cobbler Factory (Detroit)

Downtown Detroit saw the yummy launch of the Peach Cobbler Factory. From cobbler shakes to cinnamon rolls, this dessert heaven is all you need for a sweet cure. Plus, they’ve got a dessert flight if you’re indecisive like me!

Scout (Ferndale)

If you’re up north, you might’ve noticed a new light in town – Scout! Still in its soft-opening phase, this homey bar kept that fun “up north” vibe if you’re looking for an inviting spot to hangout. Watch this place!

More July Newbies

Other hot-debutants were Chipotle Mexican Grill in Plymouth, Dave’s Hot Chicken in Shelby Township, Elephant & Co. in Detroit serving Detroit-style pizza and craft beer, Finjan Cafe in Garden City, Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken in Roseville, Pink Garlic in Shelby Township, Portillo’s in Livonia, and Shankar Distillers in Troy. Each with their own unique offerings.

July Farewells

Bandit Tavern and Hideaway (Royal Oak)

The downtown location of the Bandit Tavern and Hideaway called it quits. We don’t know what’s next for this spot, so keep your eyes peeled, Royal Oak!

Buca di Beppo (Livonia)

Like one domino after another, the America-Italian chain Buca di Beppo also wrapped up their Livonia site. Here’s hoping that this space gets whipped into something delicious soon!

Detroit Institute of Bagels (Detroit)

In a surprising turn, Detroit Institute of Bagels took a break. But fret not, bagel lovers! We’ve got our fingers crossed that this closure is a brief pause and not goodbye.

The Morrie (Royal Oak)

Music aficionados will miss The Morrie, but look what’s sailing in to fill the void – Blind Owl. This Latin and sushi fusion place is expected to swing open its doors as early as September.

Smuggler’s Run (Wyandotte)

Finally, the six-year journey of Smuggler’s Run has ended. No reasons have been mentioned for its closure, yet we wish this place good luck in their future endeavors.
