Detroit’s Elaine M. Pohl Recognized as 2024 “Leader in the Law” Honoree

Detroit is buzzing with exciting news as one of its own, Elaine M. Pohl, has been selected as a member of the prestigious 2024 Class of “Leaders in the Law” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. This annual recognition highlights the most remarkable legal professionals making waves in the industry, and Pohl stands out for her significant contributions to the practice of law in Michigan.

A Celebration to Remember

The Leaders in the Law awards luncheon is set to take place on December 3, at the elegant Petruzzello’s Banquet and Conference Center in beautiful Troy, Michigan. This event promises to be a gathering of legal luminaries, with the highlight being the announcement of the “Lawyer of the Year.” The winner will be chosen through a vote by the esteemed class members, adding an exciting twist to the celebration!

Spotlight on Elaine M. Pohl

So, who is Elaine M. Pohl? A partner and insurance coverage attorney at Plunkett Cooney, she has made a name for herself with a national practice that tackles complex litigated and non-litigated property and casualty disputes. Her impressive repertoire includes handling cases related to professional liability, construction defects, product liability, and much more.

Pohl’s expertise doesn’t stop there; she also has a knack for addressing claims involving environmental contamination, bodily injuries, and even personal and advertising injury. Her insightful guidance has made her a respected figure in the insurance law landscape, and she is well-known for her work in defending against allegations of bad faith claims.

Leadership and Mentorship

In addition to her legal prowess, Pohl is a dedicated leader within her firm. Recently elected to Plunkett Cooney’s Board of Directors, she also serves on the firm’s Shareholder Evaluation Committee and co-chairs a formal mentoring program designed to uplift and guide the next generation of legal professionals.

Elaine is an active member of various legal organizations, reflecting her commitment to the community and the profession. She is part of the Oakland County Bar Association, and previously served as the chair and board officer of the State Bar of Michigan’s Insurance and Indemnity Law Section. Notably, she is involved with the DRI, the largest bar association for civil defense attorneys and in-house counsel, where she currently holds the vice chair position for its Insurance Law Publications Subcommittee.

A Bright Educated Background

Pohl’s academic achievements shine just as brightly as her professional accolades. She graduated cum laude from the Indiana University School of Law in 1999, following her undergraduate studies at Villanova University, where she graduated magna cum laude in 1996. Her qualifications allow her to practice law not just in Michigan, but also in Indiana and Ohio, showcasing her vast reach and influence.
