Farmington Hills Man Wins $5 Million in Mega Millions Lottery

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – In an astounding turn of events, a local man woke up in the middle of the night to discover he had just won $5 million playing the Mega Millions lottery. Tyrone Fergerson, aged 53, matched all five white balls in the drawing held on September 24, 2024, originally winning a $1 million prize. Thanks to the Megaplier feature he opted for, his prize multiplied to an impressive $5 million! The winning numbers were 01-06-10-23-27.

Fergerson, who plays Mega Millions every week using a set of numbers derived from significant dates in his life, couldn’t believe his luck. “I woke up in the middle of the night, decided to check my ticket, said a little prayer, and when I saw the winning numbers, I was just at a loss for words!” he shared. “I thought I had won $1 million, but then I realized I won $5 million! It’s unbelievable, and I feel so humbled and grateful.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Chill Box Convenience Store located at 29801 West 9 Mile Road in Farmington Hills. Lottery officials expressed their excitement over Fergerson’s win. “Learning you’ve won $5 million in the middle of the night is the stuff of dreams for lottery players, and it just became a reality for Mr. Fergerson,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “Congratulations to Tyrone, Michigan’s newest millionaire!”

After claiming his prize at the Michigan Lottery headquarters, Fergerson mentioned his intentions to use the winnings to take care of his family. Mega Millions drawings happen every week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. Eastern Time. Tickets are available for only $2, and players can add the Megaplier feature for an additional $1 to increase their non-jackpot prizes by up to five times.

For those looking to try their luck, Mega Millions tickets are sold across 45 states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are available until 10:45 p.m. on the day of the drawing, either online or at local retailers.
