In Ferndale, Michigan, a local high school is working to increase its security measures after the tragic incident that took place over the weekend outside the Michigan State Fair. A 14-year-old student sadly lost his life in a shooting that appears to have stemmed from an argument. There was another 14-year-old who was wounded in the incident.

The victim of the incident has been named as Darean Davis, who was just a sophomore at University High School. Following the horrific event, the Ferndale schools Superintendent, Camille Hibbler, sent out a letter to parents, saying that they believe the incident was isolated but will, nevertheless, increase security to ensure the safety of their students.

Police in Novi, where the unfortunate incident took place, were still scrambling to identify the suspected shooter while the other teenager wounded during the incident remained in the hospital, in stable condition. It was initially misreported that there might have been an active shooter at the scene.

Novi Police sources reveal that the troubled event appears to have started as a physical altercation after a group of people were seemingly involved in an argument which began earlier in the week. Both teenagers hailed from Detroit and had arrived at the fair via an Uber.

The incident has clearly shaken the local community, with local and state representatives expressing their distress. The Michigan State Fair, meant to be all about community and fun, has been tainted by this violent incident, leaving families worried about safety.

In response to the incident, stricter rules have been imposed including an increase in police presence, earlier closures of the fair and no admission of unaccompanied minors after 6 p.m.

This tragedy further underlines the urgent need for more effective measures to curb gun violence and keep our communities, and especially our children, safe.
