A quiet suburban morning in Farmington Hills, Michigan was disrupted by an untimely blaze that engulfed a residential house on Marshview Drive, leading to the injury of a civilian and one firefighter. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
The call came through just after 3:30 a.m., drawing the immediate response from all five city stations. The incident was traced back to a dryer fire within the residence, located on the 21000 block of Marshview Drive. Upon arrival, first responders found heavy smoke billowing from the first and second floors. They sprang into action, successfully quelling the flames ahead of a potentially more disastrous outcome.
The fire claimed two casualties; one firefighter who was part of the quick response unit and a resident of the affected house. The firefighter was promptly transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. The civilian, meanwhile, was administered first aid on the scene before being taken to the hospital by a family member.
All other occupants of the residence managed to escape the fire unharmed, a positive outcome credited to the working smoke alarms installed in the house. Fire Marshall Jason Baloga stressed on the importance of smoke detectors in averting potential tragedies, noting, “The most important thing again is working fire alarms“. He urged residents to immediately call the fire department upon safely leaving the premises in case of fire incidents, emphasizing that swift response would ensure the flames are extinguished promptly, reducing damage.
The extent of the fire caused significant damage to the property. In a testament to the intensity of the inferno, the siding of a neighboring house was also affected. Fire officials are currently working with the city to assess the extent of the damage and to secure the area.
The Fire Marshall and the Fire Department have since officially launched an investigation into the incident. The inquiry’s main focus is to understand the source of the fire and the circumstances leading to the blaze.
