Sponsor Our ArticlesMichigan’s Grand Rapids proves attractive to urban families seeking a fresh start and vibrant, colorful homes.
In a surprising revelation, Nick and Rebecca Gray have decided to call it quits on their high-paced New York life to start afresh in Michigan’s Grand Rapids. Their choice is the culmination of late-night discussions with close friends and personal insights. Being acquaintances with several individuals who had their roots in Grand Rapids provided them with an unexpected perspective about life in the vibrant Michigan city.
The Grays have been drawn back to Michigan by the glowing testimonies of their friends who’ve also embarked on the journey back home. Having raised families of their own, the friends spoke highly of the new life in the city.
Moving far away from the glimmering city lights hasn’t deterred the couple’s appetite for a stylish and homely setting. The Grays recently purchased a mid-century modern style house in East Grand Rapids. Initially acquired as an investment, the property has since turned into their dream home. The townhouse, complete with fun pops of color and exquisitely designed interiors, has been customized to the couple’s taste.
The living room of the house boasts high ceilings finished in exquisite oak, offset by the the soft daylight streaming in through the clerestory windows. A particularly stunning feature of their home is the beautifully designed kitchen backsplash, created using blue Japanese tile from Zia Tile – a much-loved talking point for many.
Adding to the home’s engaging aesthetic, the dining area is furnished with a West Elm table topped off with trendy candleholders from AOT. The accompanying chairs, provided by Industry West, add a additional layer of chic to the space.
However, the delight isn’t confined only to the stylish main living area. As an added bonus, the house comes equipped with a basement recreation room housing a kitchenette. This has quickly become a favourite spot for the Grays to relax and interact with their children.
As proven by Nick and Rebecca Gray, the journey toward finding the perfect haven can be wildly unexpected, leading you to places you never imagined could feel like home. Trading New York for Michigan may not be a routine trend, but as the Grays discovered, sometimes the charm of a local town can far exceed that of the bright city lights.
