Harris and Trump Focus on Crucial Swing State as US Election Gets Intense

Democratic and Republican Presidential Hopefuls Rally Voters in Pennsylvania

As the 2024 US Presidential Election gains momentum, Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic hopeful Kamala Harris have zeroed in on the significant swing state of Pennsylvania. Both candidates are eying to charm the voters of Pennsylvania over the present weekend.

Trump is geared to rally in Wilkes-Barre, a small town in Pennsylvania, on coming Saturday. Further, on Sunday, Harris is scheduled to halt at multiple spots on her bus tour around the city of Pittsburgh.

A Close Race for the Keystone State

Putting their focus predominantly on Pennsylvania — envisaged as a decisive battleground in this crucial election — is a strategic move, given the recent polling illustrating a neck-to-neck race among the top contenders across the key areas of the nation.

A poll conducted recently indicates Harris, who commenced her campaign post-President Joe Biden’s departure from re-election last month, gained grounds in four states. Trump had seemingly had a comfortable lead over Biden in these states. Amongst the likely voters in Arizona and North Carolina, the poll shows that Harris is ahead of Trump. Moreover, she has also managed to narrow down the former Republican president’s lead in Georgia and Nevada.

Another poll from the last week presents Harris with 50 percent support from voters in key regions like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, against Trump’s 46 percent in each one of these states.

A High-Stakes Election

This election has been energized by Harris’s push for the Presidency, contrasting the earlier lackluster scenario with the choice resting between Trump and Biden. The duo clashed in 2020, leading to Biden’s victory over his predecessor in a race marred by Trump’s baseless allegations of widespread fraud.

Trump narrowly lost to Biden in Pennsylvania in the past election, but still enjoys formidable backing in rural zones and small towns. As Harris emerges as the Democratic frontrunner, Trump finds it challenging to effectively counter her campaign.

Trump’s team has recently centred their rhetoric around inflation and immigration. However, much of his recent speeches have been marred by personal attacks on Harris’s identity.

Economic Policies at Forefront

While Trump criticizes the policies of the ‘Harris-Biden administration’ for creating hardships for hard-working Americans, Harris promises to ‘bring down costs and increase economic security for all Americans’, thereby making economics the key battleground for this election.

Marking her major policy speech of the campaign, Harris rolled out a slew of proposals to stimulate the economy and combat food “price gouging”.

“I will be laser-focused on creating opportunities for the middle class,” Harris shared with the crowd in North Carolina. “Together, we will build what I call an opportunity economy.”
