Farmington Hills Mayor Launches “Walk the Hawk” Initiative for Informal Civic Engagement

Farmington Hills, MI is in for some informal civic engagement, as Mayor Theresa Rich launches her “Walk the Hawk” initiative. Designed to facilitate organic conversations with community members, these events are set to start in September.

The walk-and-talk event will see residents strolling alongside their Mayor at The Hawk, the City’s award-winning recreation and performance space. Mayor Rich shared her enthusiasm for these events, saying, “Walking side by side at The Hawk with members of our community is a great opportunity for collaboration, sharing ideas and concerns, and working together to make Farmington Hills an even more vibrant community.”

The first walk is on the calendar for noon on Sept. 17. Subsequent walks are also set to go down at this time on one Tuesday every month. The current schedule lists walks on Oct. 15 and Nov. 12. Participants can meet Mayor Rich on the Hawk’s outdoor track, or on its third floor, should the weather prove uncooperative.

These casual get-togethers promise more than just good exercise—a chance to have open conversations with Mayor Rich in a casual setting. Whether one is new to the area or a seasoned local, getting an ear to the city’s head of state could really lend a hand in shaping Farmington Hill’s future. Underscoring this point, Mayor Rich stressed that community involvement is the driving force towards positive change.

And before any concerns arise, you don’t need to be a Hawk pass-holder to join the walk. The event is set to transpire in the public areas of the venue. Further updates on the “Walk the Hawk” event and any upcoming city affairs can be found on the City of Farmington Hills’ official social media accounts and their website.

Whether it’s sharing a new idea or flagging a concern, or even just getting in a day’s exercise, residents of Farmington Hills are sure to find something worthwhile at the “Walk The Hawk with the Mayor” events.
