Weather Forecast for Metro Detroit

Residents of Metro Detroit can expect a hot, humid and potentially stormy start to the holiday weekend as heat indices hit the mid-90s today. A warm front is moving through the region, leading to an increase in both temperature and humidity. This progression started the day with a mix of sunshine and clouds, with Southeast Michigan now falling under a level 2 risk of severe weather.

Midday is expected to bring showers and possible isolated thunderstorms, primarily to the areas situated north of I-69. Following this, a secondary development of thunderstorms bearing a higher threat of becoming severe is expected to occur after 4 pm and continue up until 10 pm. This is due to a cold front passing through the region.

Slight Risk of Severe Weather

The storms, which are initially likely to be scattered, may turn more organized and form a line as it moves through Southeast Michigan. Weather risks associated with these storms include damaging wind gusts, large hail, and the potential for an isolated tornado. Residents are advised to stay updated and prepare for potential severe weather conditions.

Cooler Temperatures Over the Weekend

After today’s heat, temperatures are set to gradually cool down throughout the holiday weekend. By Labor Day, the highs are predicted to reach early 70s. Apart from a minor chance of showers on Sunday due to a secondary cold front, the rest of the holiday weekend and the starting of next week is anticipated to be largely dry.

Final Remarks

Natives should enjoy the heat and humidity while staying cool and hydrated. Subscribe to local weather updates, especially during the late afternoon and evening. To celebrate this Labor Day weekend, follow the weather advisories.
