Sponsor Our ArticlesIn a notable moment for Hillsdale College alumni, Adam Stathakis, a graduate from the class of 2018, has announced his intention to run for Michigan’s House of Representatives. The elections are due in November, and Stathakis will be battling for a seat in the 22nd district, presently occupied by Democrat Matt Koleszar, who is seeking his fourth term.
The western Metro Detroit area, which includes parts of Plymouth Township, Northville Township, and Livonia, falls in the 22nd district. In the heated contest of 2022, Koleszar emerged victorious against Republican candidate Cathryn Neracher with an 8.4 percent lead. Thus, the upcoming election promises immense intrigue with a Hillsdale alumnus now in the mix.
Stathakis’s decision to run for the House of Representatives comes on the back of his belief in fostering young conservative leaders. His aim is not only to win the seat but also to overturn the Democrat majority in the House of Representatives. “It’s so important that we have the next generation of young conservative leaders step up in our country and in our state,” said Stathakis. “I want to step up for conservatives who don’t want to run,” he added.
His prime objective is to create a more affordable and prosperous Michigan by cutting down government spending. He further intends to revamp Michigan’s education system, which is ranked 41st in the nation, with a focus on a more neutral curriculum devoid of political agendas. Additionally, he aims to support law enforcement, enforce immigration policies, support small businesses, and put an end to corporate welfare.
Stathakis studied accounting at Hillsdale College and actively engaged in the campus fraternity. He served as the vice president of Sigma Chi and president of the accounting club. After graduating, Stathakis joined his family’s professional cleaning firm, Stathakis Inc. as the operations director, where he gained substantial business experience which he believes will benefit him in his political career.
Luke Grzywacz, an advisor to Stathakis throughout his campaign, expressed his confidence in Stathakis’ experience as a businessman. He said, “Adam has spent his money very wisely over the campaign, not only because of the advice I gave him, but also because he’s a very intelligent businessman.” Similarly, another campaign consultant, Andrew Szewc, lauded Stathakis’ background and asserted that he would bring his business acumen to the job as a representative.
The forthcoming November election will determine if the Hillsdale alumnus can fulfill his promise and vision for a better, brighter Michigan.
