Residents express their concerns about ongoing stalking cases in the community.
Christopher Dean Baldwin, a 42-year-old man from Jackson, is under scrutiny again as he faces new stalking charges against Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and her wife, Alanna Maguire. This comes after a series of troubling incidents, including unsettling encounters at Nessel’s home. Previous charges were dismissed due to Baldwin’s incompetence to stand trial, raising concerns about his repeated behavior. Authorities are taking these new accusations seriously as Baldwin prepares for upcoming court dates while under a hefty bond.
In a surprising twist of events, a 42-year-old man from Jackson, Christopher Dean Baldwin, has found himself in hot water once again. Baldwin is now facing new stalking charges aimed at none other than Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and her wife, Plymouth City Commissioner Alanna Maguire. This alarming development has residents of Plymouth and surrounding areas on high alert.
The trouble began on March 5, 2024, when Baldwin allegedly decided it’d be a good idea to ring the doorbell and make himself comfy on the front porch of Nessel’s family home. Not surprisingly, this curious behavior landed him in a bit of trouble. He was promptly arrested by police as they responded to the scene.
Just a day before his porch encounter, Baldwin had appeared at a Plymouth commission meeting, where his target, Alanna Maguire, was also in attendance. It appears he was quite eager to make his presence known, but this eagerness would soon culminate in serious legal consequences.
Initially, Baldwin faced two counts of misdemeanor stalking when the case came to light on March 7, 2024. But just a year later, on March 20, 2025, the case was dismissed. Why, you ask? Baldwin was found incompetent to stand trial, which naturally raised eyebrows across the community. Under Michigan law (MCL 330.2044), if a defendant remains incompetent for four months—roughly one-third of the maximum sentence—the case must be dismissed until the person in question can regain their competency.
As of now, Baldwin is under the watchful eye of the Wayne County Third Circuit Court Probate Division and is housed in a secure facility. If he ever does regain competency, his original criminal case could be back on the table.
Fast-forward to February 27, 2025, where Baldwin found himself in another compromising situation. This time, he allegedly used Nessel and Maguire’s personal address, along with the Attorney General’s phone number, to request documents from the 12th District Court in Jackson County without their permission. It seems Baldwin didn’t learn his lesson the first time around.
Due to these shocking actions, he now faces two additional counts of aggravated stalking. Once again, law enforcement took action, leading to his arrest and arraignment on March 27, 2025, at Plymouth’s 35th District Court.
After his arraignment, Baldwin was given a hefty $200,000 cash or surety bond and has been ordered to wear a GPS tether if he is released from custody. Staying on the straight and narrow might be a challenge for Baldwin, given his history.
The unfolding saga doesn’t end there — Baldwin is expected to appear in court for a probable cause conference on April 4, 2025, preceding a preliminary examination on April 11, 2025. Community members and legal authorities alike are anxiously awaiting these proceedings.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has made it abundantly clear that Baldwin’s ongoing harassment is taken very seriously. The prosecutor noted that such behavior is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated in any shape or form. The escalating pattern of Baldwin’s actions presents serious concerns about the safety and well-being of Nessel and Maguire.
As the legal wheels turn in this increasingly bizarre case, the residents of Jackson and Plymouth will be keeping a close eye on how this all plays out. Who knows what other surprises await as this story continues to develop? Stay tuned!
