Two of the injured are currently in the hospital, while others suffered minor injuries. The landslide caused significant property and infrastructure damage, leading to the declaration of a state emergency and invoking responses from Alaska’s lawmakers.

Evacuation and Emergency Shelter

Following the incident, mandatory evacuations have been issued for residents living along 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Avenues, as well as certain parts of Water Street. A warning has also been issued concerning the possibility of a second landslide. Residents in need are advised to use Madison Street to reach an emergency shelter that has been set up at Ketchikan High School.
