News Summary

In a significant leadership change, Kiira Churchill has been appointed as the new executive director of Combined Community Services (CCS). Coming from a background in development and education, Churchill aims to bolster CCS’s reach and resources as the organization caters to an increasing number of families needing assistance. With a robust volunteer force and upcoming fundraising initiatives, CCS is poised to continue its vital work in the community.

Kiira Churchill Steps Up as the New Executive Director of Combined Community Services

In early March, Kiira Churchill took the reins as the executive director of Combined Community Services (CCS), an organization that has been a lifeline for many in the community. Churchill, who previously served as the director of development for CCS and had a brief stint in communications and marketing for the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation, is ready to push CCS forward in its mission.

What’s the Buzz About CCS?

During a delightful open house hosted by CCS, the community was introduced to Churchill and her vision for the organization. CCS has been serving approximately 700 households a month, marking a significant jump from the pre-COVID numbers that hovered around 300-400 households. Even during the COVID pandemic, the organization managed to support around 600 households a month, demonstrating resilience in the face of growing needs.

Churchill is passionate about the mission of CCS, emphasizing the importance of providing a “hand up, not a hand out.” This ethos underscores the organization’s commitment to empowering individuals and families instead of simply offering temporary relief.

Growing Community Needs

The increasing number of guests seeking assistance highlights the pressing economic challenges faced by many families. With rising utility bills and grocery prices, it’s no surprise that more people are reaching out to CCS for help. Despite the growing demand, CCS has been able to sustain its level of service thanks to generous individual and organizational donations. This spirit of generosity is vital in ensuring that the community continues to receive the support it needs.

Self-Sufficiency Programs Still in Demand

CCS runs a self-sufficiency program that operates on a case management model, helping clients over a period of time that can range from just a few months to as long as five years. Currently, they have a waiting list for these essential services, but CCS is planning to bring on a new case manager when their financial situation allows it. This addition would enable the organization to better meet the rising needs of the community.

A Team That Makes It Happen

As of now, CCS employs four full-time and two part-time staff members—a reduction from a previous high of eleven employees—yet the organization isn’t short on support. Over 30 volunteers actively participate in various roles, from operating the food pantry to tutoring and assisting with administrative tasks. The community spirit among volunteers is truly heartwarming and reflects the organization’s commitment to making a positive impact.

Celebrating 40 Years of Service

CCS reached a significant milestone recently as it celebrated its 40th anniversary. In honor of this achievement, the organization is on a mission to raise $40,000 in 40 days to ensure continued community support. This fundraising effort encourages local residents to contribute—whether financially or through volunteer work—to help sustain CCS’s vital programs and services.

Making a Contribution is Easy

Interested community members can easily make donations online, in-person, or even via ApplePay. With donations being the lifeblood of CCS’s operational capabilities, every little bit helps keep the wheels turning and the community together.

A Bright Future Ahead

With Kiira Churchill at the helm, Combined Community Services is set to continue its mission of providing hope and encouragement to individuals and families. The organization partners with nine different community agencies that offer face-to-face services at CCS, ensuring a comprehensive support system for those in need.

As CCS moves forward, it stands as a shining example of community resilience and support, proving that when people come together, anything is possible.
