The city is gearing up for multiple events that will ensure your holiday weekend is fun filled and memorable! Detroit Sandwich Party
On Sunday, September 1, head over to the Eastern Market Shed 5 for the Detroit Sandwich Party. From noon to 5 p.m., celebrate sandwiches by, well, devouring them! There will be live music and drinks to make your sandwich experience even better. Entry is free, though VIP tickets are available for purchase as well.
Arts, Beats & Eats
From Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 2, the spotlight is on downtown Royal Oak. This annual fest is where music, food and art meet. Hundreds of artists will take the stage, dozens of food vendors will delight your taste buds, and makers will exhibit their creative works. You can groove to the tunes of Tesla, Dustin Lynch, Chevelle, and Keith Sweat among other headlining acts. Tickets are priced at a reasonable $7 in advance till 11:59 p.m. After that, the price ranges from $10-12, but entry is free before 5 p.m. on Friday.
Detroit Jazz Festival
If you can’t get enough of music, make your way to downtown Detroit for the world’s largest jazz festival from Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 2. This event is situated in Hart Plaza and Cadillac Square where numerous artists will deliver captivating performances. The best part? Entry is completely free!
Hamtramck Labor Day Festival
From Saturday, August 31 through Monday, September 2, Joseph Campau in Hamtramck will also be hosting a Labor Day Festival. The festivities include a carnival, wrestling shows, a canoe race, a parade, and even a pierogi eating contest. Plus, Jack White will be joining his old band, The Hentchmen, for a special performance! Entry, again, is free.
Michigan Renaissance Festival
Get a taste of history at the Michigan Renaissance Festival that runs through the weekends in September at 12600 Dixie Hwy. in Holly. This weekend features a Viking invasion theme where your tattoos or beard could win you prizes.
Corevette Fest
Are you a car aficionado? The Corevette Fest awaits on Saturday, August 31 at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion. The show features over 100 Corvette cars, live entertainment, and a silent auction. Entry is free, but if you want to display your car, registration costs $25 in advance and $35 on the day.
Michigan State Fair
From Thursday, August 29 through Monday, September 2, the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi will be hosting the Michigan State Fair. There will be numerous carnival rides, livestock shows, a pumpkin contest, a homebrew competition, and much more. Tickets start at $10.
Romeo Peach Festival
Kick off peach season with festivities in Romeo from Thursday, August 29 through Monday, September 2. The event includes activities for children, a carnival, a parade, and more. Entry is absolutely free!
College Football
And lastly, don’t forget it’s the return of football season! On Friday, August 30 and Saturday, August 31, Michigan State University takes on Florida Atlantic while Michigan goes against Fresno State.
