"Innovative urban agriculture concept"

Well, here’s something great happening in Grand Rapids and Northville, Michigan. The state’s strategic fund board just gave a bunch of projects the green light, allowing them to become a reality! These projects are set to bring huge benefits to local communities and economy. They’ve laid out incentives for a new mixed-use development in Grand Rapids and public amenities over in Northville.

One of the big wins for Grand Rapids is the approval of a $252.3 million incentive package for new developments including an amphitheater and soccer stadium. The project is led by Grand Action 2.0 and the Grand Rapids Brownfield Redevelopment Authority aiming to inject over $700 million investment into the city. Talk about making moves!

The ambitious plan includes a 296,109-square-foot, 12,160-seat amphitheater being built at 201 Market Avenue along the Grand River. That’s not all, folks! They’re also gearing up to erect a six-story apartment building with 475 units and a parking garage.

Not to leave the soccer fans out, there’s an 8,500-seat soccer stadium lined up for the city’s west side, and a mixed-use development—The Stadium District Tower. It’ll offer plenty of retail and office space, 260 apartment units, and 350 parking spots. Grand Rapids Mayor, Rosalynn Bliss, sees these projects as real game changers for the city, resulting in revitalization and growth.

Over in Northville, the strategic fund board shone the green light on a state tax capture for the redevelopment of a 7.85-acre plot, once home to Northville Downs. This support, capped at $2.08 million, is destined to help create new public amenities—a daylighting project for Rouge River and a public park. The goal? To get the river back to its more natural state while serving up some great recreation benefits for Northville residents and surrounding communities. A perfect spot to just chill and take in some nature, right?

The daylighting project is part of an exciting development by Hunter Pasteur. Known as “The Downs,” it’s a community designed to include homes, townhouses, condos, apartments, and small businesses. Other cool perks? Expect new housing (443 units, to be exact), over 18,000 square feet of retail space, two big parks and better pedestrian, bike, and car routes. The project also got a helping hand with $2.5 million funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act and a tidy $1 million grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.

And there’s more good news! Northland Corp, a Greenville-based refrigeration company is expanding its facility and investing over $21 million to make it their largest refrigeration manufacturing site. This massive project is set to create up to 200 jobs and retain 116 jobs. Now, that’s a cool move(!) pun intended.
