Michigan Announces Outlandish ‘I Voted’ Sticker Designs for 2024

In the spirit of civic participation and creativity, the state of Michigan ran its first-ever competition for designing the ‘I Voted’ stickers. The competition amassed nearly 480 submissions, and over 57,000 Michigan voters cast their votes to decide on the winners. Announced in August by Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, the contest’s nine winners include designs from elementary, middle school, high school and general submission categories.

Innovative Designs Stir Up Excitement

The winning designs range from simplistic to ornate, each carrying a unique appeal. One elementary school submission features the phrase “I voted yay” spelled out in letters written backwards. A high school submission depicts a wolf ripping its shirt open, revealing an American flag underneath. Yet another intriguing general submission displays a small figure saluting the American flag with the text “I’m cool, I voted”.

Community Engagement in Vibrant Democracy

Benson, in an August press release, expressed her gratitude towards the participants and spoke about the value of civic pride in these designs. She said, “Thank you to all of the Michigan students and residents who created a design for our state’s first ‘I Voted’ sticker contest. Every Michigan voter should walk out of the polls with pride…now, we can share that pride in our democracy with a sticker designed by some of our state’s talented and creative artists.”

This populist initiative not only ignites artistry and creativity but also bolsters the spirit of civic participation among the residents of Michigan. Having this collaborative approach of designing ‘I Voted’ stickers does not only contribute to public-art but brings the sense of community democracy in a fun way.

When Will the Stickers Be Available?

The Michigan Department of State has confirmed that the victorious stickers will be available for voters from the November 2024 election onwards. Election clerks will have an opportunity to order whichever designs they consider suitable for their jurisdictions.

This initiative seeks to inspire all voters to take part in the democratic process while celebrating the unique artistic flair of Michigan’s residents. As these stickers start appearing across the state, each wearer can take pride in not just their vote, but also the democratic spirit of Michigan’s residents.
