Physician Accused of Preying on Women and Children Appears Virtually in Court

In Pontiac, Michigan, a notable physician, Dr. Oumair Aejaz, accused of preying on women and children using hidden cameras, attended a court hearing virtually through Zoom on recent charges laid against him.

The 40-year-old doctor, who specializes in internal medicine and runs his practice in Rochester Hills, faces allegations of committing several sex crimes. His attorney took issue with the handling of the case, stating that there was an erosion of Dr. Aejaz’s presumption of innocence.

The physician’s defense attorney, Mariell Lehman, expressed dismay at public statements made by the county sheriff, which painted Dr. Aejaz as a serious sex offender. Lehman has called for restriction on further public statements from the prosecution or the sheriff’s office about the case.

Alongside these concerns, attorney Lehman also noted that they were not given adequate time to review partial evidence shared by the prosecution. The evidence in question includes 141 pages of documents, causing potential delays in the trial preparations.

The allegations against Dr. Aejaz came to light after devices such as computers, mobile phones, and external storage devices were seized during his arrest. A hard drive alone uncovered 13,000 videos. In addition, the investigation might potentially extend to cloud storage.

These crimes apparently may have been unnoticed for over six years, were it not for the vigilance of Dr. Aejaz’s wife who brought forward the critical evidence.

The doctor, who moved to Michigan in 2011 for his internship, faces ten felony charges including creating child sexually abusive material using a computer, capturing/recording children under the age of 18 while nude, capturing /recording two women over the age of 18 while nude, and using a computer to commit a crime.

The geographic scope of the investigation could expand beyond local counties, depending on where Dr. Aejaz has worked in the past. Thus, indicating the potential involvement of victims from other states or even countries.

The court hearing set the next date for September 16, with a 2-million-dollar bond and set conditions remaining in place for Dr. Aejaz.
