The NBA recently held its annual Sales & Marketing Awards ceremony, and we can hardly contain our excitement over the results! Celebrated on January 13 during the NBA Sales & Marketing Meeting in Miami, this year’s event was filled with recognition for teams that really stepped up their game in the business arena.
This year, the Boston Celtics took the spotlight, winning the coveted title of NBA Team of the Year. And it’s no wonder! Their performance has been nothing short of stellar, as they reported record revenue streams across various sectors, including ticketing, partnerships, digital content, and merchandise. Talk about a powerhouse!
What’s even more impressive is their engagement with fans. The Celtics smashed records with over 880 million global video views on social media and digital platforms. This connection with the community is truly inspiring. And if you’re wondering about their games, the excitement didn’t stop there! The proud team managed to sell out every home game during the 2023-24 season while achieving an astonishing 99% season ticket renewal rate.
The Celtics have also been trailblazers when it comes to innovation. They made headlines as the first NBA team to offer augmented reality-enhanced commemorative tickets for the highly anticipated 2024 NBA Finals! This exciting blend of technology and fan experience shows how committed they are to keeping their fans engaged in new ways.
And let’s not forget about merchandise! The Celtics saw merchandise sales rise by nearly 19% on Celtics.com/shop, setting a brand new team record. It clearly shows that fans love sporting their team colors and gear!
Beyond impressive numbers, the Celtics have also made significant strides in community service. They launched the Curbside Care initiative, focusing on healthcare equity, and have actively advocated for new juvenile court legislation, showing their commitment to positive societal changes. Furthermore, they expanded the Jr. Celtics Academy, making youth basketball programming more accessible to young people, fostering the next generation of players.
The night was also about recognizing other teams’ incredible achievements. The Milwaukee Bucks took home the NBA Inclusion Leadership Award, showcasing their dedication to supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds, especially through initiatives like their System Impacted Rotational Program.
The Toronto Raptors were honored with the NBA Team Innovation Award for their groundbreaking Gen AI Innovation Program, introducing the world’s first AI-powered video editing system. How cool is that?
On a personal note, Cindy Norman from the Cleveland Cavaliers received the prestigious Pete Winemiller Guest Experience Innovation Award, acknowledging her decades of innovative contributions to guest services. Meanwhile, Pam Frasco, also from the Cavaliers, was recognized with the NBA Values of the Game Award for her remarkable work in community relations and social impact. Posthumously, the late Jim Morris of the Indiana Pacers was honored for his meaningful career focused on public service and community leadership.
These awards celebrated accomplishments from all 30 NBA teams, recognizing their efforts from October 2023 to October 2024. It’s uplifting to see individual and collective contributions to fan engagement and community impact being celebrated so passionately!
