Plymouth Township's Pumpkin Patch Property Transforms into New Housing Development

Plymouth Township’s Pumpkin Legacy Transitions to New Homes

Plymouth Township is gearing up for a significant change as the beloved pumpkin patch property transforms into *a picturesque new neighborhood*. The local Board of Trustees recently gave the go-ahead for the Cresthaven cluster housing project, bringing 19 new homes to the area! This exciting shift is set to take place on a charming 6.5-acre plot, nestled on the west side of Canton Center Road, tucked between Joy and Ann Arbor roads.

A Blend of Home Styles for Everyone

The Cresthaven development is going to feature an appealing mix of two-story colonial and ranch-style homes, all priced in the high $700,000 range. According to Leo Gonzalez, who’s representing Pulte Homes, this initiative aims to cater to *both new families and those looking to downsize*. He mentioned, “Along the way, we decided based on the market, we wanted to offer a ranch product in this community.” This realization opens up *exciting opportunities* for families currently residing in single-family homes to seamlessly transition into these new properties.

A Nod to Community and Nature

But the *good news* doesn’t stop there! The development boasts a delightful pocket park for community gatherings, which will surely foster a cozy neighborhood vibe. Additionally, the homeowners association will maintain a lovely landscaped buffer to ensure that the aesthetics of the area are always top-notch. And for those concerned about accessibility, there will be *some improvements* to Canton Center Road, with plans to pave 650 square feet of the roadway, leaving a little gap at the south end near Joy Road. Plymouth Township Supervisor Chuck Curmi expressed hope that they can rally support to complete the paving from Ann Road to Joy in the future.

Keeping History Alive

What’s particularly special about this development is the *rich history* attached to the land. It was once the thriving farm of Jay S. Richards, affectionately known as ‘Farmer Jay,’ who grew luscious pumpkins and an assortment of produce for over 40 years. Even after his passing in March 2023 at the remarkable age of 96, Farmer Jay’s legacy will be honored with a plaque commemorating the site’s historical significance. Local resident and trustee Jen Buckley shared her fond memories of her son working for Farmer Jay, planting seeds and picking berries, stating, “I’ve enjoyed the benefits of having no neighbors in my back for eight years…but my husband and I are excited.”

Catalyzing Community Growth

This new project comes after the Plymouth Township Planning Commission conducted thorough public hearings, with the project receiving unanimous approval at a meeting in November. The excitement around the development is palpable, as it *not only offers new homes* but also provides a fresh opportunity for community interactions and interactions. Gonzalez highlighted the cluster housing approach, stating that it allows for homes to be more closely grouped together, thereby preserving open space while encouraging community engagement.

What’s Next?

Plymouth Township is stepping into a new chapter while paying homage to its agricultural heritage! This impressive shift will undoubtedly create a vibrant community atmosphere for current residents and newcomers alike, as they celebrate the popcorn tradition while welcome new neighbors into the fold. As the *construction begins,* it’s evident that Plymouth Township is looking forward to a blossoming future filled with families, friendships, and the spirit of community.
