Originating from Northville, Michigan, Laba has shown a lot of promise in his collegiate career at Colorado College. This past season, he tallied an impressive 26 points, including 10 goals and 16 assists, in just 29 games. His performance not only earned him a spot as one of the leaders on his team—he was tied for the most goals scored—but also showcased his exceptional skillset. In the 2023-24 season, Laba truly made a name for himself by setting career highs with 20 goals, 17 assists, and a total of 37 points spread over 36 games. The journey to the NHL hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Laba, as he has had to grapple with a few injuries. Still, he wasn’t deterred—he tied for the team lead with 10 goals at Colorado College despite missing several games. Laba’s resilience was evident when he recorded a hat trick against Minnesota-Duluth on January 17, and he even managed four assists in another game against Northern Michigan.
Beyond scoring goals, Laba displayed his capabilities during the NCHC playoffs where he recorded three points—one goal and two assists—against Denver.
