Residents of Northville are buzzing with excitement after their very own, David Kibbey, was recently honored as the Young Achiever of the Year for 2024 by the prestigious International Historic Motoring Awards in London. This recognition is not just a feather in his cap; it’s an inspiring tale of passion, dedication, and the vibrant world of collector cars.
Imagine getting a phone call that could change your life! At just 18 years old and still in his first year at Hillsdale College, Kibbey received the fabulous news about his award via email and phone from the judges in London. Although the award ceremony on November 24 was an event in high demand, David couldn’t attend due to his busy class schedule. But that didn’t dim his joy; instead, it highlighted how important education is, even amidst thrilling achievements!
The International Historic Motoring Awards is no small potatoes! This annual program honors individuals under 30 who have made significant contributions to the world of collector cars. Out of six finalists, Kibbey’s work stood out, leading him to claim the top honor—a proud moment not just for him but for everyone in Northville cheering him on!
Kibbey has been the chairperson of the Northville Concours D’Elegance, which he founded in 2021 with an enthusiastic team of volunteers. His main mission? To ignite a love for U.S. automotive heritage among the youth. It’s all about involving young folks in the fascinating world of collector cars! “I am so very grateful to my family and automotive leaders in so many fields who have encouraged my passion for cars, particularly collector cars,” says Kibbey about his journey.
His automotive journey kicked off at the tender age of nine when he was invited to participate in Hagerty Insurance’s youth judging program. Fast forward to today, and he is an official judge at significant Concours shows like the ones held in Amelia Island, Florida, and Pebble Beach, California.
Kibbey isn’t stopping here. He is on the lookout for about 25 new judges to join the ranks of the 20 veteran judges at the upcoming fourth annual Northville Concours. The only requirement? A passion for cars. “We will train them and have a program and checklists for the judges to follow,” he shares. This is a great opportunity for young enthusiasts to dive deeper into the automotive world.
Set your thumbs to remind you; the fourth annual Northville Concours D’Elegance is set to showcase nearly 100 stunning vehicles and will even honor a special car collector as the “Collector of the Year” for the 2025 event. The Lingenfelters, recognized for their impressive collection of over 200 vehicles, were the stars of the show last year!
If you’re eager to witness this incredible gathering of automotive artistry or want to be part of something special, tickets are available at NorthvilleConcours.com. This event is crafted entirely by teenage automotive enthusiasts and promises to be a fantastic outing for anyone who loves cars.
In conclusion, David Kibbey’s award is not just a personal triumph; it beats as a heartwarming reminder that passion and community involvement can bring about incredible opportunities and recognition—even from halfway around the world! Northville, keep your engines revving; exciting times are ahead!
