Road Closure Alert: Northville Downs Set for Demolition on Saturday

Residents and visitors in Northville, Michigan, are being advised to make note of a significant road closure on Saturday due to planned demolition works at the Northville Downs facility. S. Center Street between Cady Street and Seven Mile Road will be inaccessible the entire day.

Schedule and Scope of Demolition Works

City officials have declared that the affected roadway will be shut from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday. While it is expected to conclude within the day, there is a slim chance the closure might continue into Sunday if unforeseen issues arise. Not only will the demolition be underway, but underground utilities maintenance crews will also be performing vital work.

Heavy machinery has been at work at Northville Downs since early this month, with towering excavators dismantling the vertical steel supports of the clubhouse. The next phase of the operation on Saturday will involve taking down a prominent overhang that has been part of the structure.

Response to Community Concerns

Last month, locals expressed worry following an oil spill at the site which authorities attributed to the ongoing demolition activities. Some of the oil unfortunately found its way into the Rouge River. In a swift response, the city deployed two booms to contain the spillage. Additionally, they contracted a private firm to manage the situation and facilitate a thorough cleanup.

Additional Local News

In other local news, fire crews from Ann Arbor were kept busy with rescues of a kayaker and a child from the river in separate incidents recently. Elsewhere, Michigan is witnessing a surge in road resurfacing projects this week taking place across three of its southeastern counties. Meanwhile, a local man has been found guilty in an international telemarketing scam that shamelessly targeted over 1,400 senior citizens. On the crime front, Detroit police have unveiled a new Neighborhood Response Team to crack down on unauthorized block parties. Lastly, a tragic house fire in Oakland County resulted in two fatalities.

Preview of Upcoming Events and Alerts

Health officials have declared a closure of the Livingston County lake due to sewage discharge being detected. We urge residents and visitors to be mindful of these changes and updates, and plan their activities accordingly.

Always remember, our collective, mindful actions can help maintain the quiet charm of Northville and ensure that it remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. Stay tuned for the latest updates and local news from Northville.
