Northville Townhome Fire Leads to Smoke Inhalation for Two Cats

Early Wednesday morning a blaze broke out in a townhome located in the upscale neighborhood of Northville. Whilst there were no human casualties reported from the incident, unfortunately, two furry inhabitants of the home, a pair of beloved cats weren’t unscathed. These loveable felines ending up suffering from smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.

Fire officials were called to the scene which occurred at The Coves of Northville, located near Taft and Eight Mile just before 1 a.m. According to these responders, the fire apparently originated from the second floor of the unit. The two cats that were found within the premises seemed to have been exposed to heavy smoke, as per Fire Chief Matt Samhat, who was overseeing the firefighting effort.

Upon rescue, the cats were given the necessary immediate treatment for their conditions, including oxygen. Fortunately, they are expected to soldier through this challenge, a silver lining in what can only be described as an unfortunate incident.

The fire was consequential, managing to be contained primarily to the originating unit. However, it must be noted that adjacent units in the vicinity, numbering around four to five, ended up with water and smoke damage. As a result, the residents living in these homes have been temporarily displaced, with the hope of returning once the required ventilations and repairs are completed in a day or two.

On the unfortunate side of things, the unit where the fire started has been deemed a total loss. It’s a harsh reality knowing a home once filled with memories and love has now been reduced to ashes. However, the mantra “it’s better to have lost things than to lose lives” seems to be apt in this particular situation.

Tragedies such as these highlight the importance of installing and regularly inspecting smoke detectors, along with having a solid evacuation plan at the ready. Stay safe everyone!
