Novi Residents on High Alert as South American Gangs Target Neighborhoods with Break-ins

Novi Neighborhoods Targeted by South American Gang Series of Break-ins

Residents of Novi are on high alert as local police officials have identified a troubling pattern of home break-ins believed to be orchestrated by South American gang members. Just within the past month, the area has experienced a series of home invasions that have prompted authorities to bolster police presence in affected neighborhoods.

What’s Happening?

In a statement released this Tuesday, Novi police revealed that they suspect the break-ins are linked to Chilean gangs that have been operating in nearby communities such as Bloomfield Township and Northville Township. These gangs have left a trail of broken glass and shattered security as they target unsuspecting homeowners.

Since Halloween, at least four homes have been recently invaded, with the first incident occurring on the evening of October 31st. Police reported that between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., intruders broke into a residence on Revello Court while no one was home. Authorities have suggested that the suspects likely approached the home through a nearby wooded area.

Ongoing Incidents

Just two days later, another home on Vento Drive suffered a similar fate when criminals broke a rear window between 6:00 and 8:55 p.m. Again, the family was away during the invasion. The suspects are believed to have accessed this property via a field. It’s almost as if these gangs are conducting their own little stakeouts, ensuring nobody is inside when they strike.

The break-ins didn’t stop there. On November 15th, a home located on Pomino Drive was broken into at approximately 5:45 p.m., with thieves entering by breaking a bathroom window on the second floor. Less than 90 minutes later, another home on Turnberry Boulevard experienced a break-in as well, with the criminals using the same tactic of breaking a rear door window.

Police Warnings

According to law enforcement, it’s believed that these suspects are not only surveilling their targets before breaking in but also utilizing sophisticated technology that jams Wi-Fi signals. This means that any home security systems set up to protect families may not function properly, leaving homes vulnerable.

It is a nerve-wracking scenario, and police are urging residents to remain vigilant. They encourage anyone who notices suspicious activity or vehicles in their neighborhoods to report it. Information can be shared with the Novi Police Department at (248) 348-7100.

Wider Context

The situation in Novi paints a larger picture of crime in the region. Earlier this year, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard issued warnings about similar burglaries targeting high-end homes across the county, noting that thieves related to these crimes have previously made off with up to $4 million in cash and jewelry. In December, six individuals were charged with multiple home invasions and retail thefts in the Metro Detroit area, and three were noted as being Chilean nationals.

With crime escalating, Northville Township police reported five break-ins at upscale homes over the past year—again attributed to organized South American crime groups that are spreading their invasive tactics throughout the area.

Conclusion

The residents of Novi are encouraged to stay alert as the police continue their investigation. While the authorities work to increase their presence and identify suspects, a united community vigilance can go a long way in keeping neighborhoods safe. Remember, your safety is paramount, and a watchful eye can prevent the next home invasion.
