In the city of Novi, a tragic event unfolded on the afternoon of August 29, claiming the life of a local man. Steven Erno, a 62-year-old resident, was instantly killed in a severe head-on accident on Beck Road.
Erno was driving northbound on Beck Road around 5:08 p.m. in his Ford Fusion. For reasons as yet unclear, his vehicle drifted over the centerline of the roadway resulting in a head-on collision with a southbound GMC truck. The truck was driven by a 44-year-old man from Plymouth.
Novi police and fire department personnel were quick to respond to the incident. However, despite their best efforts, Erno was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the GMC truck, miraculously, did not require medical treatment.
A preliminary investigation into the fatal crash does not suggest that alcohol or drugs played a role. However, Police Lt. Adam Elsen did affirm that an autopsy is pending as part of the ongoing investigation, so all potential factors in the crash are being examined thoroughly.
In the aftermath of the crash, Lt. Elsen issued a reminder about road safety, perhaps now more poignant than ever. He advised, “Make sure you don’t drive distracted and watch your speeds. You never can tell what will happen on the roadway.”
