The Ohio Valley Health Center is set to host its 19th Annual Gala on April 27, 2025, at St. Florian Event Center, themed ‘Unveiling the Mask for Hope, Health, and Healing.’ This event aims to raise funds while honoring community champions and celebrating the organization’s mission to provide medical services to the underserved.
The Ohio Valley Health Center (OVHC) is preparing to host its 19th Annual Gala, a spectacular event aimed at raising funds and honoring some remarkable members of the community. Slated for April 27, 2025, at the lovely St. Florian Event Center, this year’s gala theme is “Unveiling the Mask for Hope, Health, and Healing.” With a festive masquerade atmosphere expected, it’s going to be a night to remember.
Founded in 2006, OVHC has been a beacon of hope for many residents. They are committed to providing essential medical services to those who are uninsured or underinsured. A remarkable fact is that in 2024 alone, OVHC provided over $1 million in free care! This magnificent clinic stands as a health care safety net, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, can access comprehensive medical services.
The OVHC clinic offers a wide range of services, including medication assistance, laboratory services, food supplements, and case management. These services play an integral role in uplifting the health standards of community members who might otherwise struggle to receive proper care.
Being a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization means OVHC relies heavily on grants and donations to keep its doors open. About one-third of its operating budget is generated through the annual gala, making this event a vital source of funding. Tickets for the gala are priced at just $65 per guest, but attendees must purchase them by April 21 to be part of this glamorous event.
This year’s gala will also shine a spotlight on key community contributors. Among them is Mary Meyers, the medical honoree. Since completing her nurse practitioner program in 2020, she has been a staple volunteer at the clinic. Her dedication to supporting underserved populations has made a significant impact on many lives.
Susan Tarr will be recognized as the Volunteer of the Year. Initially connecting with OVHC through her role at A&B Sunset Pharmacy, she has taken on responsibilities ranging from handling medications to working with the gala committee, showcasing her commitment to OVHC’s mission.
Wilma Ching will be receiving the Community Partner of the Year award. As the representative of the Ching Family Trust, which has donated an impressive $65,000 to OVHC, her support continues to be crucial. Wilma’s late husband, Dr. Santiago “Sonny” Ching, was a practicing physician for 40 years, and his legacy lives on through her ongoing commitment to the clinic.
Ongoing contributions from the Ching Family Trust have funded critical health programs, including the colorectal cancer screening initiative at OVHC. Wilma believes that keeping this support active is a way of honoring her husband’s legacy while ensuring that his memory is preserved within the community he served.
The gala is not just about raising funds; it’s a special night where OVHC staff can proudly showcase their work and recognize the incredible community contributions that help provide healthcare access to so many. With the masquerade theme, attendees can look forward to an enchanting evening filled with camaraderie, compassion, and, most importantly, a celebration of hope, health, and healing.
Mark your calendars, grab your masks, and prepare to join this extraordinary gathering that not only supports a noble cause but also celebrates the heart of the community!
