Unlock your Career in Education with Paraprofessional Positions

Good news for those living in Farmington and looking for a path into the field of education, paraprofessional positions are opening up throughout Farmington Public Schools, providing the ideal stepping stone into a fulfilling educational career.

The positions, also known as paraeducators, are designed to provide essential support to teachers, particularly those working with special education students, students with medical needs, or students needing help with reading.

Interested individuals had the chance to learn more about these significant roles at the recent paraprofessional job fair held at the Maxfield Education Center. The fair was a valuable occasion for potential applicants to not only join immediate interviews but also inquire about the nature of the roles before deciding to apply.

Good news for interested parties – these positions don’t often necessitate anything more than a high school diploma or a general education degree. For those few roles that require additional certifications, the school district is willing to cover the cost.

Lydia Moore, the executive director of special education for Farmington Public Schools, emphasized that the most important attribute they’re looking for in applicants is a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of students with special needs. She added that individuals who enjoy teamwork, continuous learning, and have a commitment to personal growth would be ideal candidates.

Fair participants were able to fill nine out of fifteen available positions for the upcoming school year. With six positions left to be filled, the district continues to attract more potential paraprofessionals. Once all the positions are filled, the new recruits will participate in a comprehensive week of training before the school year commences. Further training will also be provided throughout the academic year.

Why consider a Paraprofessional Position?

Becoming a paraprofessional can be a crucial stepping stone into the world of education. It goes beyond the traditional concept of an ‘entry-level’ position as it provides firsthand experience and knowledge about the intricacies of the educational field.

Moreover, the nature of the job can be incredibly rewarding. Paraprofessionals have the opportunity to witness firsthand the progress and growth of students who need their support, and for many, this can be a driving force to pursue further qualifications in education.

For parents, these positions can align perfectly with their children’s school hours. And given that paraeducators act as an integral part of the educational team, the role offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals to form positive relationships with students and significantly contribute to the community.
