Following the success of Warren’s first pickleball-exclusive complex, Metro Detroit is set to continue its embrace of pickleball, one of America’s fastest-growing sports. The announcement of two new state-of-the-art pickleball facilities in Northville and West Bloomfield not only boosts the sport’s popularity in the local area but also emphasises the region’s commitment to promoting a diverse range of recreational activities for residents across all skill levels.
The indoor pickleball club franchise, PickleRage, is holding its grand opening for its West Bloomfield facility on August 3. Located on 7290 Orchard Lake Rd, the almost 27,000-square-foot building is home to nine professional-grade, climate-controlled courts. The facility also enjoys modern lighting systems, further enhancing the player’s experience.
David Smith, Chief Operating Officer of PickleRage, expresses excitement about the opening of the new facility, “Our goal is to provide a welcoming and dynamic environment for players of all ages and skill levels. The grand opening event is a perfect opportunity for everyone to experience what PickleRage has to offer.”
Always open, PickleRage will feature a players’ lounge, free balls, paddle loans, and even beer and wine bars. Further extending the accessibility and enjoyment of the game, the facility allows players to video record and live stream their matches.
Northville is setting its own pace in the pickleball scene, with the announcement of the Northville Pickleball Club. Construction of this facility, which will be the largest of its kind in the state of Michigan, is set to start this summer. It promises 16 climate-controlled, state-of-the-art courts sited on the campus of the Ward Church at Sixn Mile and Haggerty. The facility, extending over 50,000 square feet, is expected to open in 2025.
In addition to court rentals and leagues, it will accommodate skill-level sessions, and will also feature a pro shop with pickleball equipment and clothing, locker rooms, a cafe, and meeting rooms for parties and gatherings.
The growing interest and support for pickleball in Metro Detroit was kickstarted in April with the opening of the Bash Pickleball Club in Warren, the region’s first pickleball-only complex. Establishing the sport locally, it quickly became a popular venue for players with 10 professional-grade courts.
This investment in pickleball facilities, demonstrated by the planned expansion of PickleRage and the ambitious Northville Pickleball Club, suggests a bright future for the sport in the Metro Detroit area, promising world-class facilities for local pickleball enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.
For pickleball players looking for other locations to play in Metro Detroit, an extensive list of both indoor and outdoor courts is available. With the expansion of dedicated, professional pickleball facilities, Metro Detroit is marking itself out as a hotspot for the rapidly growing sport, and providing a vibrant and dynamic environment for players to get involved.
