Polish Culture Comes Alive at the Third Annual Polish Festival in South Lyon

South Lyon is all set to host the third annual Polish Festival at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 830 S. Lafayette Street.

The two-day celebration of Polish culture, taking place on the 7th and 8th of September, will feature an array of fun activities for the whole family.

Food and Contests

Jim Chuck, a Co-Chairman for the festival, announced two eating contests. The first contest is a Strawberry Shortcake eating competition for children aged 5 to 17. The twist is that competitors won’t be able to use their hands. Meanwhile, adults can show off their speed-eating skills in a Pierogi eating contest. This isn’t just about quantity, but it’s also a race against the clock with a time limit of 10 minutes.

The festival will also showcase a wide range of Polish culinary delights such as Pierogies, Kielbasa, and various delectable desserts. Of course, there will also be beverages available including Polish and draft beer, snow cones, as well as pop and water.

Activities and Entertainment

In addition to the food and contests, attendees will also enjoy Polka dancing and live music from Polish bands throughout the festival.

To add to the cultural experience, there will also be artists showcasing and selling their crafts. Among these talented individuals is a glass-blowing artist who will be displaying his craft on both days of the festival.

Car enthusiasts are in for a treat too, with a classic car show scheduled for Sunday.

Those seeking a spiritual experience can also attend a special Mass hosted by the church on Saturday.

The festival is a testament to the strong community spirit with volunteers, local businesses, and attendees from different counties making it possible.

The Polish Heritage Festival starts at 1 p.m. and lasts till 9 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, you can visit the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church’s website.
